New Year's Eve tonight!

Today as you may well know (unless your in a far off land and it's already happened) is New Year's Eve! I'm excited because despite being sick, have been since Friday, I am going to a party and get to spend the night hanging out with Michele and her brother and some awesome people. That being said I still have a lot to do this week. As I said before I was sick so I tried to stay off the computer and such. I'm doing this update because I feel obligated to myself and to everyone who reads it to let you know what happened with the game this week.
So I went back to the GDD and I finished the environment descriptions this entailed what the area looked like as well as what kinds of environmental tools the player would find as they traversed each terrain. Then I fleshed out four different enemy types, not including the bosses. There is the ranged, heavy, support, and special. Ranged deals a lot of damage, heavy sponges damage, support heals, and special changes from terrain to terrain. Dorian is a hybrid of these 4 classes. He has Shel to heal, he can take a significant amount of damage as well as deal it, and he will have a special ability as well. Since each enemy class is specialized they will be able to do their specialization better than Dorian, ie the ranged will deal more damage and the heavy will take more damage.
There's still a lot more of the GDD to type out and then I have to do concept art and a template for it. After that I plan on working on GM8 tutorials until the end of break. Before I get too far ahead of myself this week I'm hoping to finish the enemies (bosses), combat, and a walkthrough of the four different terrains.
Being sick is no fun, but I'm going to grit my teeth and bear it to get this stuff done. Hope you all have a fun and safe new year's eve!

Accountable

I haven't posted in a while and for good reason. Two weeks ago was finals and I was making sure everything was going well. This past week I was off of work, so I decided to give myself a little vacation before I dove back in to doing work. So my update is going to be a little different than it has been. I got to spend time with Michele, we had dinner at her aunt's house on Christmas Eve it was amazing. A 7 fish dinner: salmon, crab cakes, spaghetti and clams, green beans, wings. Everything was amazing. For Christmas I got her a ring and a bunch of stocking stuffers and she got me several games that I wanted gift cards 4 shirts 2 sweaters a  hoodie and 2 pairs of jeans. I even got to see her on Christmas day which was awesome cause I usually don't get to since we both have family obligations and all that.

Over the last two weeks I got my final project proposal done for my senior thesis class. Then I finished my dynamic web application project. That doesn't sound like a lot but it was, trust me.
I am about to continue working on my GDD. I'm going to go through everything except for the story, mostly because I want to be able to get a well fleshed out story that people will enjoy and reflect upon. This week I'm hoping to iron out different types of environmental weapons the player will be interacting with and I will be going through several tutorials in Game Maker.
The only obstacle throughout the weeks to come is myself and this internship that I am probably going to be starting next semester. I'll need to start looking into the Carona SDK, but I can't really say much about it because apparently there's a nondisclosure agreement I'm gonna have to sign.

If anyone notices that I'm not posting or that my posts all say I've gotten a little or nothing done, feel free to send me a message or something and tell me to get my butt in gear and start working. I'm using this blog to hold myself accountable for my work. Thanks all, hope you had a great Christmas!

When will this end?!

Winter break is so close the tension is palpable. I am going to miss college, but not really haha.
Anyway I didn't get much done this week mostly due to the fact that other projects consumed my week and will most likely consume this week since my senior thesis class just needs me to submit a document and present my project idea.
I've finished my final project proposal so now I can start actually working on the darn thing.
I don't expect to get much done this week either, maybe a little bit of the GDD depending on how much of my other projects I get done. As soon as I'm done typing this I am going to put up my Christmas tree and work on a website for another class. Then I have another game I need to work on heavily.
What isn't an obstacle? I've got the lure of video games and the desire to forsake all work and just let the semester ride out. I have several projects to get done and I have Christmas shopping that needs to get done before it's merely one week till Christmas and I'm stuck in last minute shopping madness. I got promoted to manager at McDonalds so I will be working more over the break that's a good obstacle cause I need the money.

Where do I go from here

So today was bittersweet. Every up had a down and vice versa. On the up side I found $20 in my car on the downside I forgot my charger at Michele's house. Then my testing went well and on my way home from school I got a call saying I was going to be promoted to manager! However Michele is in Denver now and won't be back until Friday night. I'm gonna miss her. Love you Shelly!
Anyway that was my day today. This week I got the prototype done for testing as required by my class curriculum. The prototype was minuscule and did not feature everything I wanted it to but it conveyed the point that was desired.
I have several options that I can do now that the testing for my game as required by class is over. I can flesh out the prototype even more while GameMaker is still fresh in my head. I could diligently go through each GM tutorial to really get used to the system and even delve into the scripting language of GM where the real magic happens. Lastly I can work on my GDD which I feel is going to make the game a lot easier to work with when I have everything fleshed out the way I want it to be on paper. I also have to write a clear and concise proposal document due by the 17th.
The other big project I'm concerned with is my game design class's GDD. We aren't as far along as we should be which sucks and is stressful, but it will be okay. Also indecision and the desire to take the winter off are going to be major obstacles. Still expect my updates every Monday and throughout the week as I make breakthroughs.
